Common Questions
You Ask. We Answer.
What is apologetics? Why is it important?
What is theology? Why is it important to learn about?
What is philosophy? Why is it important?
Philosophy from a Christian perspective is the love and pursuit of wisdom. It is important because we worship an all-wise God and He calls us to lean on His understanding and to discern His wise teachings.
Theology is the study of God. God has revealed Himself to us in nature and through the Holy Scriptures. The importance of learning Theology is:
-
to gain an understanding of who God is
-
to help us to learn who we are
-
to show us the purpose, value, and meaning of our lives
Knowing who God is impacts the way we live our life. The deeper understanding we have of God the deeper our living for God can be.
Cornelius Van Til defines apologetics as the vindication of the Christian philosophy of life against the non-Christian philosophy of life. Apologetics is important because the Scriptures call us to be ready to give a defense for the hope that we have. (1 Peter 3:15) Our culture is in a constant search to answers of life's most deep questions. As Christians, we are called to answer these questions.
What does it mean to be biblically centered?
What does it mean to be theologically-grounded?
What does it mean to be philosophically sound?
Scripture is sufficient for all faith, practice, and living righteously. Therefore, to be biblically centered, our beliefs ought to be foundationally built on the teaching of the Scriptures.

To be theologically grounded means to think rightly and biblically about who God is and what He has done.
To be philosophically sound is reasoning well about the true, the good, and the beautiful as demonstrated in the world God made.
